Richie Hawtin presents ENTER.
Music. Sake. Technology. Experience.

RICHIE HAWTIN confirms first solo IBIZA residency with the introduction of ENTER. at Space on Thursdays.

“ENTER. will be a point of entry into new experiences: from new music and DJs through to technology and the Sake we introduce people to”
– Richie Hawtin

RICHIE HAWTIN has confirmed he will launch his first solo residency on the island of Ibiza – with the introduction of his new visionary ENTER. concept. Hawtin will take over Thursday nights at the award-winning club Space in Playa d’en Bossa for 12 weeks (July 5 to September 20), curating four rooms built on the principles of music, sake, technology and experience. Hawtin and ENTER. will also collaborate with underground night Kehakuma to form ENTER.Kehakuma on the famed Space Terrace – a night already established as an incubator of emerging and defining electronic talent.

Hawtin has a strong history with the island of Ibiza thanks to his long-term contribution and association with Sven Väth’s Cocoon creation at Amnesia. Hawtin feels now is the time to make his own statement on the island, to provide a new platform for the artists and music he supports, and to lead Ibiza into the island’s next phase of development and innovation.

Richie Hawtin states: “After an incredible and life-defining relationship with Sven and the Cocoon family on the island, I felt the time was right to develop my own vision on what an Ibiza experience might be. Ibiza is a destination for people from all walks of life looking to escape and celebrate. This year we will give people an entry into a world that connects many of the things that I love: music, technology, Japanese sake, art, entertainment and design. As Ibiza is a crossroads of people from all over the world, ENTER. will be a crossroads of experiences!”

ENTER. is based on the following principles:

MUSIC.

Hawtin will play each and every week from the center of the ENTER. experience, within an augmented version of Space’s main room surrounded by new structural lighting installations and technologies. Hawtin will curate the entire ENTER. line-up featuring M-NUS artists, friends, collaborators and like-minded individuals on each floor including ENTER.Sake and ENTER.Air (Space’s rooftop terrace). Hawtin will collaborate with Space on the line-ups for the main Terrace now dubbed ENTER.Kehakuma – bringing his own selection of artists to an already established hotbed of emerging electronic talent.

SAKE.

ENTER.Sake is the island’s first true Sake Bar experience – an intimate Japanese inspired room with surprise DJ sets from major guests starting each Thursday at 10pm. For the first time, the official pre-party is in the actual club itself. Hawtin, himself a trained Sake sommelier and a huge fan of Japanese culture, is personally importing the Sake from Japan, recruiting the staff and working with renowned mixologist on the special Japanese Sake & Shochu based cocktail menu.

It has been said of Hawtin, “to truly understand this man, you need to understand his love and obsession with Japan”.

TECHNOLOGY.

Each room within the ENTER. concept will be touched by technology; from live Internet feeds, to visualizations of music & sound, to the interactive installations of the transformed Sunset Terrace – now titled, ENTER.Interakt. This will be a new sensory experience beyond music involving cutting edge technologies and ideas.

EXPERIENCE.

Richie Hawtin states:

“As electronic music continues to develop around the world it becomes more important to invite people into its very core, where music, technology and ideas interplay to create unique and wonderful new worlds. Ibiza is the perfect place to further explore my event concepts that have been developing since the early Warehouse parties I threw in Detroit and more recently with CONTAKT & Plastikman Live. It is my hope that by combining many different elements together I can heighten the experience of the audience and place a significant memory into their subconscious. Ibiza is the perfect location for continuing this long-term experiment and ambition of mine.”

ENTER.FACTS
ENTER. will take place every Thursday from July 5 to September 20
ENTER. will be promoted by Hawtin and his M-NUS team in collaboration with Space.
ENTER.Sake will see the launch of the island’s first dedicated Sake bar.
ENTER.Kehakuma will see Hawtin collaborate with Space’s underground night.
Kehakuma will continue in its own right before and after ENTER.’s 12 dates.
ENTER. pre-party will take place weekly at Space from 10pm with big guests.

Expect a succulent taste of the Orient crossed with a unique deep underground sound as Kehakuma returns to Space Ibiza for a fourth season.

Kehakuma opens its doors for summer 2012 on Thursday May 31st at 10pm and has confirmed the first five dates for the summer from May 31st till June 28th. Featuring artists like Maya Jane Coles, Guy Gerber, Laura Jones, Edu Imbernon, Kyle Hall, MK, Luv*Jam, and our beloved residents Nick Curly and Remo, and many more yet to be announced.

The house-techno-infused party which embraces a touch of beauty, takes music meets art to the next level in summer 2012.

With the theme ‘Oriental’, expect exotic beats, stunning backdrops with a taste of the Far East and of course, one of the best sound systems in the world.

Kehakuma resident Nick Curly was one of the superstars from summer last year and on the back of an inspirational winter, has just released his debut album ‘Between The Lines’ on Cecille Records. A slightly lighter style for Nick, this different face of his musical expression, with live instrumentation and vocals, enraptures a slightly more emotional side and shows the diversity of the techno artist.

Another favourite of the Kehakuma family who returns this season is the hugely talented Maya Jane Coles. Inspired from a very early age by an eclectic range of music, by the time she was 15 she was producing hip-hop before discovering dance music at the tender age of 16 which took her on a different direction – and a distinctive urban meets soulful, deep electronic sound.

Her dedication to her music, writing, producing and performing her own tracks led to winning many awards last year, and 2012 will no doubt hold another year of huge success for the 24 year old.

Kehakuma is waiting for you on May 31st, just don´t miss it…

The Greenwood Hotel, a legendary location for open air events, couldn’t have been a better location to host the first ever Kehakuma party outside of Space Ibiza.
On January the 1st, 2.500 electronic music aficionados attended one of Sydney’s most sought after events. The lineup was simply exquisite and never seen before in Sydney, ranging the whole spectrum of Kehakuma’s music policy. From Jef K’s deep house to Radio Slave’s techno, going through Seth Troxler’s own brand of house, a true musical journey was lived through the entire event.
The doors opened at midday on a hot summer day with local Sam Roberts who after a nice warm up set gave the commands to Seth Troxler, the event’s heavy weight.
The Detroit native delivered an impressive set of house music that included some of Visionquest’s released material as well as old school blended sounds, all of them quality.
After 2 hours of Troxler’s set and Matt Cahill’s performance, Parisian Jef K took over the commands. He possessed the audience with “Jack” himself: rough and groovy beats full of catchy vocals and the crowd followed with a huge smile jacking their bodies as the event deserved.
Eddie Richards was next, London legend proved why he’s been at the forefront of electronic music for so many years and, as many people agreed, was the highlight of the night. A 2 hour set full of powerful beats.
Playing after Eddie and keeping the high level of energy seemed a difficult task but UK and now Sydney’s underground player Gary Todd handled the situation perfectly.
After more than 9 hours of partying the crowd seemed as hungry for beats as at the very beginning and, lucky enough, the event’s second heavy weight was not going to let them down: Rekids boss Radio Slave was on top of his game, his techno infused selection took the event to a whole other level as the moon was showing up.
Last but not least, Kehakuma resident artist Remo, had the honor to close a party that will be for sure remembered. To close an event with such talented artists billed is not an easy task but Remo is no stranger to the game, he proved why he has a deserved place at Kehakuma every summer; his tech house set was the ice on the cake for the World’s premiere of Kehakuma’s international tour.

As one of the main protagonists behind the so-called Mannheim sound, the meteoric rise of Nick Curly is one of the telling stories to unfold over the last two years and bears proof of what is possible to accomplish, even in these rapidly changing times for electronic music. Being at the helm of Cecille and 8 bit Records, two of the most exciting labels to emerge from the German underground scene certainly doesn’t do his reputation any harm, but without doubt it is the combustible nature of his killer dancefloor 12”s and a burgeoning reputation as an A list DJ which has taken his name worldwide. Releases on labels such as Cocoon, Murmur, Supernature, 8 bit and Plastic City laid the groundwork of what might follow back in 2007/8, before this year Nick came back and unleashed his ‘Series’ collection on 8 Bit and Cecille, which proved to be his biggest releases to date, and then following it up with his debut smash ‘Pujante’ on Cocoon before capping it all with a debut DJ mix compilation ‘Reasons’ which was released on 8 Bit in June. All this before 2009’s half way stage. The remainder of the year sees Nick touring the ‚Reasons’ compilation with his debut tours of South America in August, North America in October and Australia in November. Whilst back in Europe in the autumn, he will catch his breath long enough to join his label mates on the 2 Years of Cecille European tour, which hits key clubs such as Fabric, Panoramabar, Studio Martin, Goa, Harry Klein, and Open House, Paris.

2 Jun 2011

28 Jul 2011

Hailed as “easily the hottest emerging talent in dance music” by Mixmag, nominated as “Best Breakthrough Producer” by DJ Mag and with the likes of Anja Schneider, Jamie Jones and Damon Alburn queing up behind to offer their praise; it would seem that there may be something rather special lurking in London’s fair walls and indeed there is, in the form of a rather unique 23 year old British/Japanese producer/DJ by the name of Maya Jane Coles.

For many, it Maya’s debut EP on Franck Roger’s Real Tone that first switched them on to Maya Jane Coles. Supported by a list that boasts Laurent Garner, Tony Humphries, Ekkohaus, Steve Bug and Dj Gregory amongst others; ‘What They Say’ oblitereated the sales and critics charts on Beatport; with the track enjoying a no1, no2 and no 3 placing on Resident Advisor’s chart in October, November and December 2010 respectively!

Further releases have only added to this success with impressive showings for Maya’s Humming Bird EP (Hypercolour) and “Beat Faster EP” (Mobilee) garnering peer support as varied as John Digweed to Roger Sanchez to Rulers Of The Deep. The trend is set to continue when Maya’s next EP lands on Ralph Lawson’s 20:20vision in May – just before her Essential Mix for Radio 1 in June as it goes!

Not one to fall victim to the pitfalls of being one of the scenes ‘buzz names’; Maya has built on her flourishing production reputation with a slew of dj gigs across Europe holding her own alongside world renouned names such as Anja Schenider, Jamie Jones, Seth Troxler and Paul Woolford. So much so her schedule for 2011 is already jam packed with dates across Europe, North & South America, Asia and Australasia taking in clubs like London’s Fabric, Batofar and Watergate as well as festivals such as Glastonbury 2011 amongst others having previously played at Sonar, Bestival and the BBC Electric Proms.

Maya has also performed guest mixes for the likes of Resident Advisor, Louche, Trace A Line and Defected with remixes in 2011 set to drop on labels such as Crosstown Rebels, Leftroom, Exquisite Pain, and Real Tone.

Whilst most people learned about Maya in 2010; Maya is far from an over night sensation…

An eclectic daughter of similiarly eclectic parents; Maya was surrounded by a mixture of sounds from Dub to Punk to Soul and Jazz to World to Classical music around the house. Having learnt to play a few instruments and started to songwrite, production felt like the natural next step.

First producing hip-hop at 15; Maya was determined that she should be able to learn the skills to realise her own vision at every part of the process from production to performance. That’s why now, on a typical Maya Jane Coles record, Maya will have written, produced, engineered, arranged, mixed and performed every element of the track; sometimes she even designs the sleeve artwork too!

Driven by a constant urge to push herself and evolve; Maya migrated to dubby sounds and eventually to drum’n'bass around 17; before a huge water shed moment in her life, Maya experienced good underground house! As a result, Maya started on her current journey as a house producer releasing on labels such as “Nobody Else” (Dogmatik) and her “Bubbler” EP (Loco Supreme) as well as chalking up DJ gigs at events like the BBC Electric Proms, Sonar and Bestival along the way.

Indeed Maya’s diverse influences means she even exists outside of the confides of the realms of house and techno. Under the guise of her live dub-electronica hybrid, ‘She Is Danger – alongside instrumentalist/vocalist Lena Cullen – Maya played at gigs from the world largest fetish club Torture Garden through to opening for The Orb with their tracks played everywhere from Radio 1 through to KCRW and Per Se.

She is Danger are, however, probably most famed for their remixes of artists from Gorillaz to Groove Armada and Gorillaz with an acclaimed dubby reworking of Massive Attack’s ‘Girl, I Love You’ included on the band’s ‘Heliogland:Deluxe’ album! Picking up plaudits such, RCRDLBL ‘Track of the Day’, Qmagazine ‘track of the day’ and ‘Daily Download’ on NME.com and smashing the Hypemachine top 10 mutliple times.

Whereas, fans of Maya’s Dubstep project ‘Noctural Sunshine’ include key tastemakers, Joy Orbison, Skream, Benga, Craig Richards and Scuba to name but a few!

For most people the mere mastery of music would be enough but not for Maya, her brain just wasn’t build to be constrained so in the future we may more of Maya talents from the world’s of fashion, photography and art but for now Maya is clear – MUSIC definitely comes first!

Currently in development; is Maya’s first full length album. Her current aural diet consists of the cutting edge of tech and deep house and everything from Little Dragon and Fourt Tet through to Warpaint and the XX, So what can we expect from Maya’s debut? Only one thing is for sure; it’s going to be an electronic odyssey with Maya firmly at the helm; and there’s a rather good chance that when it lands, the name ‘Maya Jane Coles’ is going to be around for a very, very long time to come.

In short, 2010 was the year that people took real notice of Maya Jane Coles and 2011 onwards is about showing people that this is just the tip of a very, very large iceberg indeed!

Don’t believe us? Well, this is what other peeps have got to say…

Hi Maya, firstly, can you describe briefly how much your life has changed in the past 12 months?
Life has changed immensely! No longer having to worry about the struggles of getting by as an unknown artist is the biggest change and relief. It’s hard when most of your days are constantly spent trying to figure out what the next step is to get your music heard or to get recognised for what you do. It’s a massive weight lifted to no longer have to worry about that and really just focus on the music.

How have your ambitions changed?
I wouldn’t say my ambitions have changed. I have ridiculously high ambitions so I’ve still got quite a long way to go! I’ve never wanted to settle with making music for just the house scene, it’s only a small part of what I do, there’s a whole massive music industry out there with loads more genres and scenes waiting to be infiltrated.

Moving onto Ibiza, you’re featuring in the Opening Party for Kehakuma, your Space debut, what’s your background or history with the island?
I’ve played in Ibiza a few times before. Just not at the massive clubs. My good friend Alex Arnout has thrown a few Dogmatik label parties out there so I’ve played at those. The first one was 4 years go at Underground, it was right when we first started working together so was a good way of getting to know each other. Each time I’ve been back has been with a big crew of close friends so it’s always been real good times.

And what do you know about Space Ibiza?
Well it’ll be my first time there this Summer, so I’m yet to experience the club. But from the stories that I’ve heard and with it being one of the biggest in the world, I’m really looking forward to it.

You’re playing with the likes of Nick Curly and Simon Baker at the Opening, how does your style match with theirs?
I wouldn’t say my style matches theirs cause we all have our different styles, but they’re both prolific producers who are good at what they do, so I guess that’s where we all come together. I haven’t heard either of them play before actually, so this will be my opportunity to do so.

How much of your own music do you tend to play when you DJ?
I play a lot of my own stuff. I’m constantly working on new music and there’s no better place to try it out than live on a dancefloor somewhere. The best way to get instant feedback for sure. It’s also nice to be able to play tracks that no one else in the world has got or heard. I’m a producer first, so I want that to be reflected in my sets.

Regarding productions, do you feel like you’re in a really creative zone at the moment, as there seems to be a regular supply of your work coming through.
I’d say this is just how I’ve always been Ever since I started making music about 8 years ago I’ve made a hell of a lot of it. I’m just hooked. It’s my true passion so I’ll always be making music whether I release it or not. I’ve got tonnes and tonnes of tunes that have never even seen the light of day.

You’ve just featured in the Mixmag ‘New Queens of the Underground’. Well done!! How do accolades and prominence like that sit with you?
Thank you. I was really excited about being part of such a cool feature, and when they told me I was going to be on the cover I almost didn’t believe it! It’s nice to see a main feature based just around female producers. Hopefully things like this will inspire more young women to get into the production side of things. The industry could definitely do with more.

Any other exciting plans you’ve got for the year?
I have so many things I wanna do but not enough time to do them all! At the moment the touring is taking up most of my time so any time I’m not away is precious and has to be purely focused in the studio. I’ve got a few really cool collaborations planned for a bit later in the year which I’m super excited about.

Finally, which track can’t you stop playing in your sets?
Sasse – Perc (Huxey Remix)

Kehakuma Opening Party – Thursday June 2nd

NICK CURLY, MAYA JANE COLES, SIMON BAKER, MIAHI POPOVICIU, SOULPHICTION (LIVE), AXEL BOMAN

In the first of a series of profiles on the artists playing at Kehakuma in 2011, we fired some questions at one of London’s hottest young properties right now, Maya Jane Coles, who will playing at Kehakuma for the Opening Party on June 2nd and also on July 28th.

4 Aug 2011

The Israeli pioneer of electronic music, Guy Gerber has repeatedly startled the world with his personal vision of techno which he intertwines with unique and cleverly designed melodies and moving airs that leave no listener indifferent. His live sets are enjoyed worldwide where people are eager to share in the fresh and distinguished sounds only he has the recipe for. As Owner of Supplement Facts, he has found the best means of communicating his passion for harmony and rhythm.

Guy Gerber has been stirring up electronic audiences with his anthem releases and live shows for quite some time. After countless productions for major labels, dance ensembles and electro rock bands, which earned him many awards and praises, Guy was ready for a major hit.

His universally embraced single on Bedrock Records, Stoppage Time, became the stand out anthem of the year at the likes of Cocoon at Amnesia, and DC 10. The single has surpassed the 5-digit mark in sales and continues to shift by the truckload, and to appear on numerous compilations.

On New Year’s Eve 2007, Guy introduced to the world his new live show, rocking major events and festivals, such as Time Warp, Blue & Green, WMC SAMC, Sonar, SMS and many more.
His tour included the most prestigious clubs within the electronic scene, such as Fabric London, Panorama Berlin, Bar/Berghain Berlin, Cocoon Frankfurt, Goa Rome as well as clubs in South America and Asia.

While touring with his live show, Guy was busy working on two other projects, which played a major roll in his life:
The first was his album, Late Bloomers, which demonstrates Guy’s vast knowledge of the history of music, was released on Cocoon May 2007, and was supported by a world tour;
The other is Guy’s self imprint, Supplement Facts, now a favourite of some of the greatest DJs around.

An addict to his studio work, Guy continues to work on his follow up album and new releases, while still touring the biggest clubs and festivals in the world.

Nina Kraviz- Is a Siberian born young singer, producer and DJ. She runs Friday nights at Moscow’s famous Propaganda club.

Her first 12 inch was released on Greg Wilson’s B77 label-Myspacerocket feat. Nina Kraviz . Then followed the ” Voices Remix Project ” on Jus Ed’s Underground Quality imprint and her “First time” solo EP.

Apart from being a part of the Underground Quality family she does her house n’ disco beats for Rekids and Phillip Solmann’s aka Efdemin’s Naif label. “Pain in the ass” 12 inch released on Rekids in december 2009 was a success and brought Nina’s music to a wider range of listeners. Since then she’s been playing all around the globe including well known clubs like Panorama bar, Fabric, Fuse, Goa, Space and many more..
Her work is quite recognisible and most of the time has something personal in it’s sound. No matter what is she playing with; dirty house groove like in the latest remix of Okain’s “Scream” on Tsuba records or melancholic lyrics of “Moses’ latest collaboration with Sascha Funke -it has that kraviz’s special sounding.

As a DJ Nina is very energetic and emotional. She plays whatever she has in her bag concentrating more on the atmosphere than on knobs and faders. You either love her or hate her- but never in the middle. You still can expect some good vibrations coming out.. house (especially acid house), techno according to her taste – which is excellent by the way).

11 Aug 2011

Vancouver B.C.’s own Mathew Jonson has built a solid reputation over the past few years through his participation in the Modern Deep Left Quartet, Cobblestone Jazz and by various productions under his own name. His forays into Jazz, house, fusion, techno and other electronic based music(s) reference a youth filled with musical creativity and ingenue.

Formally trained in drums, percussion from a young age, Mat also had stints performing clarinet and classical piano. In fact, a young MJ played in the under-18 drum concert band at the age of 11, a feat made spectacular by his early ability to improvise in lieu of reading music. Through his father’s interest in early electronic music and instruments, Matt discovered a new form of sound and musical composition, a form he began to tweak and fiddle with at 10 years of age, utilising keyboards, basic sequencers and sound modules. Between 12 and 17 years, Matt began experimenting with computer-based sequencing and sound—programming being the logical extension of his early box instruments.

A visit to the monolithic Vancouver World Fair in 1986 catapulted the youngster into a world of compu-based generation and musical exploration. The focus of this globally influential event was the transmission of humans and information in the digital age, a catalytic theme for the young Jonson and his already burgeoning sense for production. During his late teens and early twenties, Matt could be found performing regularly in Vancouver, Victoria and environs throughout. An increasingly personal interest in live performance prompted Matt to focus again on outboard equipment, old 70’s anologues with a primarily hands-on usage.

Mat’s deeply moody solo performances, combined with his impressive session playing in the Modern Deep Left Quartet and Cobblestone Jazz, served to build a reputation for masterful composition, riveting and intensely emotional musicianship and, ultimately, national and international acclaim. His solo productions for Itiswhatitis and a collaborative Perlon recording have brought him broad international attention and exposure, evident in his travels to Geneva, Switzerland to work with Luciano, Germany and his performance at Mutek’s Micro 7—a prelude to Mutek’s 3rd edition were he played with Cobblestone Jazz. Although Mat’s Itiswhatitis releases have been licensed by such luminaries as Dan Bell and Carl Craig, attracted the praise of Richie Hawtin, Laurent Garnier and Larry Heard, Mat’s understated modesty speaks through the deeply personal nature of his work, a testament to his artistry and genuine character.

23 Jun 2011

7 Jul 2011

25 Aug 2011

15 Sep 2011

Steve Lawler needs no introduction, but he certainly warrants one. You would be hard pushed to ?nd a more in-form, in-demand, exceptionally talented artist, regarded as highly by his industry peers as he is by his huge global base of musically educated fans.

Steve Lawler A child of the acid house generation, has been busy with the beats long before genres were but a twinkle in clubland’s eye. An electronic artist who des generic boundaries, ever since his days organising the infamous motor way raves back in the early 90?s underneath the M42 motor way, in the UK.

As an Artists: his releases & Remixes have been signed by some of the worlds most established Recording labels. R&S Records, Systematic, Drumcode, Harthouse, Cocoon, MBF, OVUM, Sci+Tec, Tsuba, Souvenir, Rekids, Boxer Sport, Be As One, Monique, Kostbar, Soma, Skint and of course his own recording label VIVa MUSiC.

As a Label Manager: Steve’s label VIVa MUSC (found in 2006), has quickly earn’t a reputation for breaking new talent and has featured tracks by such artists as Reboot, Audio?y, Simon Baker, Jamie Jones, Davide Squillace, Luca Bacchetti, Bushwacka, Livio & Roby, Dragosh, Leon, Plasmik, Ripperton, ilario Alicante, John Selway, Peace Division, Bearweasel, Tiefschwarz and of course lawler him self amongst many others and receives heavy patronage by many House & Techno luminaries. As for A&R, just ask artists like Simon Baker, Audio?y, leon, Bearweasel and Livio & Roby and they’ll tell you all about the support, encouragement and opportunities Lawler has given them.

VIVa MUSiC works as a culmination of everything that’s gone before; from the putting on the aforementioned illegal raves, to his residency at super club Cream back in the mid 90′s. He’s remixed high pro?le artists such as Jamelia, Dido and Justin Timberlake and worked with many of the worlds renowned dance imprints. As well as recording a track for the blockbuster horror movie by Ian Softly ?The Skeleton Key’. He’s released some of the industry’s most collectable mix series such as the ?Dark Drums’ ?Lights Out’ and, most recently, the ?VIVa’ series. Now on its 3rd release. The ?VIVa’ series has revealed Steve’s widescreen vision better than any mix before with down tempo and deep house playing a big part in the beat blend.

Steve held a triumphant residency for nine years at the Balearic club Space in Ibiza (a club he returned back to in 2008). His VIVa Nights residency where steve played from doors open to door close at The End in London consistently sold out for its 7 years span and his residency at London’s Home Club was one of the infamous venue’s only success stories.

Dynamic, driven and drastically obsessed with performing as well as he possibly can. Steve’s passion for House, Techno and Electronica is too strong for one simple generic association, and right now his message is louder than ever. 18 years deep and Steve Lawler isn’t just at the top of his game, he’s pushing the boundaries of what a DJ can do – both technically and creatively – as an artist and as a successful label businessman.
